Peek at Our Week

Hello kindergarten families!  We are flying through our days.  There are so many special things happening.  Besides our large tadpoles, which we will release, we now have BABY tadpoles.  These babies are from the pair of pet frogs that Mme Warsaba keeps in the office.  If they grow bigger, we will keep them as pets.

Our caterpillars arrived in the mail and we have been busy observing them.  The kids each have their own and have named them.

We also officially started learning about the butterfly life cycle. We looked at pictures and props before acting out the stages.  Did you know a caterpillar pops its head off as it gets too big for it?!  It sheds its head five times before building its chrysalis.  Another interesting fact: a butterfly isn't just a caterpillar with wings.  When it enters its chrysalis, it breaks down into black goo, a pile of cells which rebuilds itself into a whole new creature, the butterfly.

We are eggs that have been laid on a leaf.  

We are the size of the period at the end of this sentence.

We've come out of our eggs and we are little caterpillars who spend our days 

eating, pooping(!), and resting. We also pop our heads off as we outgrow them.

We are spinning our silk chrysalises as we dangle under a leaf.  We break down into black goo before rebuilding ourselves as butterflies.

We emerge and pump coloured ink into our wings and wait for 

them to dry before we can fly.  Then we lay new eggs!

 

We love to play with our caterpillars.  They are getting long and fat.  

Peek at Our Week

We celebrated Music Monday with an assembly in the gym.  We sang and listened to a French story in our nest groups.

We welcomed in a French puppeteer, Mariviève, who entertained us and taught us about arctic animals.

And guess what?!  We have new friends in our classroom.  Mme St. Onge is doing a tadpole to frog study and she had a few too many so she offered them to us.  We have 5 little tadpole friends that we can watch and love for the next couple of weeks.  They should have legs within the next week.

Earth Day Part 2 and a Peek at our Week

Last week was full and fun.  We had plenty of Mystery Readers, spent a few more days celebrating Earth Day,and finished our clay projects for T.I.A.

We dug up our rotting pumpkin and the trash was STILL there!!  We talked about how important it is to recycle our garbage and to never litter, because our trash sticks around for a long, long time.

We did a book exchange

We walked to the Living Prairie Museum to hear an amazing storyteller

We learned about Green Choices and Red Choices.  They tie in nicely to being bucket fillers and bucket dippers.  For kindergartners, this time of year always brings a change in behaviour so it is a good time for a refresher.
