Last Day, Last Post

Well, we made it through the last day of school - also known as the hardest day of Mme Katie's year.  There were tears, warm hugs, and thoughtful cards and gifts.  It has been such a magical year in our classroom.  I've been so amazed by this group of little learners.  It is so difficult to say goodbye to such keen, kind, empathetic and helpful students. Really, this year has been perfect.  It has been my pleasure to spend this time with you all.  Good luck in Grade 1 and enjoy your summer!

Kites!!

Today we finally made the kites from our outdoor challenge.  We even went outside to try them out.

We also finished our necklaces.  They turned out great!  They look so real.

Shark Teeth

Evan presented a slideshow of shark pictures that he took during his recent trip to Florida.

Next we sculpted our shark teeth out of air-dry clay.  Next, we will add wire and turn them into necklaces.

Outdoor Challenge - Rocks (and Kites)

We went outside and read a few beautiful books about rocks and rock art.  We found our own rocks and painted them in the sun.

We also spent some time reading in our tent.  It was fun fitting the whole class in there!

Library Visit and Puppets

We had a visitor, Lori, from the Winnipeg Public Library.  She told us about the Summer Reading Program and about all of the reading fun we can have over the break.

There was thunder and lightening outside (it was shaking the whole school!) so we stayed inside and made our butterfly and caterpillar puppets. Cute!

Outdoor Challenge Day 2 - Water

We started our day with Mme Richelle (spirit name Morning Star), of Anishinaabe decent.  She drummed and sang to us and taught us all sorts of interesting words and ideas.

Next we created our water monsters for our river race. We raced our monsters down the ramp on the structure!
