International Polar Bear Day

Thank you for your donations!  The kindergartners collected more than $30 for the Polar Bear Rescue Team.

Actual average size of an adult male paw

Science experiment: the kids held their hands in the snow for as long as they could.

Then we used a bag (within a bag) of lard to protect our hand from the cold.  This simulates the layer of fat beneath a polar bear's skin.

Actually touching the lard - "It feels like lotion!"

J'aime les ours polaires!

Playing Voyageurs

We learned a little more about Voyageurs today and we did it through dramatic play!!

Paddling the river

Portaging our canoe

Setting up our tents and fires to cook our bannock

Sleeping and resting

CUTEST VOYAGEURS EVER! (we hit some rough water, everyone survived)

We also had our reading buddies visit us to present their Reader's Theatre.  They performed fairy tales for us:

100 Day Superheroes

We started our 100 Day celebration with a drumming presentation in the gym, which was tied into Festival du Voyageur.

Next, we began our 100 Day festivities. Our day was action-packed and fit for a squad of superheroes.

We used our x-ray vision to find 100 Hershey Kisses that were hidden all over the room

We competed in teams to build 100-cup superheroes fortresses

We flew around the school and took 100 giant superhero steps to see if we'd make it around and back to our classroom.  We stopped and checked our guesses several times but in the end, most of us were wrong and we didn't make it...

...but we were close

We made our 100 Day trail mix

Next we did centres and ate our trail mix.
100 Day masks

100 Fruit Loop necklaces with superhero badges

We read 100 books (about 5 each) and marked them on our poster

It was a SUPER day!!
